PRINCETOWN — Fire crews responded to a tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 88 Monday night, New York State Police said.
No one was hurt.
The incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. on I-88 eastbound in Princetown, police said.
Troopers responded there for reports of a commercial trailer fire, police said.
The investigation determined a commercial vehicle hauling a trailer had experienced mechanical issues while traveling and was being towed by a heavy-duty tow truck for repairs, a state police spokesperson said.
While being towed, the trailer caught fire. The tow truck and commercial vehicle were able to disconnect before the trailer became fully engulfed, police said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday.
I-88 eastbound was closed at Exit 24 for about six hours due to safety reasons and the removal of the trailer, police said. It was then reopened.
