Officials said the compressed natural gas being carried within the tanker did not explode due to a safety measure on the commercial vehicle designed to off-gas contents in a controlled manner in case of a fire.

A tanker truck that caught fire on Dakin Road in Ferrisburgh earlier this month did not explode as previously believed, according to Vermont State Police investigators.

State police continue to investigate the incident that caused U.S. Route 7 to be shut down for several hours on June 1.

Officials said the compressed natural gas being carried within the tanker did not explode due to a safety measure on the commercial vehicle designed to off-gas contents in a controlled manner in case of a fire.

The driver of the truck was not injured, thanks to the quick thinking of another motorist, who was able to warn him of sparks coming from beneath the trailer in time for him to exit the vehicle.

Video from the scene shows flames shooting into the sky as the truck eventually caught fire.

Work has already been completed on the road surface and various cables that were damaged in the fire, according to VSP.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to reach out to the New Haven barracks at 802-388-4919.
