Morton crash: One killed in pickup truck collision with semi on I-74

One person was killed on Interstate 74 near Morton after a vehicle hit a semi-truck head on just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Illinois State Police.

Illinois State Police said a pickup truck was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-74 for "an unknown reason" when it struck a semi-truck head on, which caused the pickup truck to catch fire.

The pickup truck driver was declared dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was taken to a hospital with injuries.

Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at 11:23 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.

Hanley said on Facebook he will release the name of the dead driver at a later time following family notification.

Eastbound lanes of I-74 were closed until 6 a.m. Thursday morning following the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
