Letcher man killed in accident Wednesday night in Sanborn County

JUNE 5, 2023:

A 46 year old man from Letcher has been identified as the person who died Wednesday evening (May 31, 2023) in a two-vehicle crash two miles east of Letcher.

Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that a 2019 Hyundai Sonata was driving westbound on 241st St. A 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck pulling a flatbed trailer was driving eastbound on 241st St. The Sonata crossed the center line and collided with the semi-truck.

The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, 46-year-old Jason Mathew Price of Letcher died at the scene of the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The 19-year-old driver of the semi-truck, Carson Thomas Fahey of Mitchell sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

South Dakota's Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
