Driver Killed When Big

Apr 26, 2023

The driver of a tractor-trailer was killed in Allen Tuesday when the rig they were driving collided with another vehicle before flying off an overpass and crashing into the roadway below.

Video shared with NBC 5 showed the truck burst into flames as it twisted upside down before hitting the ground.

While the investigation into the crash continues, Allen police said it appears the tractor-trailer was northbound on Central Expressway when it collided with another vehicle. The tractor-trailer then drove over the right side of the overpass and caught fire as hit the ground.

The driver of the truck, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was killed in the crash. Police said the driver's identity will be released after the family has been notified.

The United States Postal Service confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the truck driver was a contractor who transported mail for the USPS and they said their thoughts and prayers were with his family.

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the victim's family and friends as they deal with their loss," police said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Driver Edith Pearson was on Stacy Road when she heard a loud boom and watched the 18-wheeler plunge of the highway.

"People came out of their cars to see if they could help, but it was too late," Pearson said.

She was waiting to turn onto the service road and was seconds from where the cab landed.

"It was really bad and I felt bad for the gentleman in the car and just so sad to see somebody die like that," Pearson said. "And to think that I could have been turning and being under that was just the scariest thing."

Anyone who witnessed this crash or has any information regarding it is asked to contact the Allen Police Department Traffic Unit at 214-509-4288.
