NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department said that two officers were sideswiped by a tractor trailer in North Carolina while picking up a special response van from Florida.

Police said that on Oct. 29 the two officers were driving through Dunn, North Carolina when the tractor hit the van.

Neither of the officers nor the trailer driver were injured, but the department said the van was “likely totaled.”

A North Carolina officer who was driving behind the van caught the crash on their dashcam.

The van was a Special Response Vehicle that was hardened and was made for usage in “active threat” situations.
