Thermo King introduces the third

Sep 05, 2023

Thermo King recently introduced the third-generation diesel TriPac Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). The newest model is designed to provide the same comfort and performance customers expect but with added enhancements to reduce emissions, monitor unit performance and increase profitability, the company stated in a recent press release.

The company says the third-generation TriPac APU is available in two different models to add flexibility and help customers meet emission regulations. One model is a 49-state Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 compliant solution for aftermarket installations. The second model includes a new aftertreatment device (ATD) that is 50-state compliant with California Air Resource Board (CARB) and meets EPA Tier 4 compliance for new original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or aftermarket installations.

Thermo King says it believes the TriPac APU provides added value to customers with ESG targets because it eliminates unnecessary engine idling, which helps lower fuel consumption. The TriPac consumes approximately 75% less fuel per hour, which equates to 2,500 gallons each year or 10,000 gallons over the typical length of tractor ownership, according to the company. In addition, it reduces the wear and tear on the larger tractor engine and improves resale value.

The third-generation TriPac APU also features an updated controller and in-cab digital user interface.
