Drivers compete in Truck Driving & Step Van Driving Championships in NH

Some of the best truck drivers in New Hampshire went head to head for a spot in the National Truck Driving Championships.

The 2023 Truck Driving Championships and Step Van Driving Championships were held Saturday in Pembroke at Associated Grocers of New England.

To have qualified, drivers must be accident-free for a year. During the competition, drivers undergo a written examination, a pre-inspection test and a skills challenge.

"You can see them driving in between cones. These are massive vehicles and they have to be operated with precision and the men and women who are here today do that each and every day. They're the very best of drivers we have on the road across the board," said New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles Director John Marasco.

Winners at the state level will compete in the national championship in August. Organizers said these competitions inspire tens of thousands of drivers to operate accident-free each year.
