MONTCALM COUNTY, MI – A 51-year-old man was hospitalized in a rollover crash after his tractor-trailer overturned on the highway, Montcalm County sheriff's deputies said.

The man's injuries he suffered in the Wednesday, June 7 crash are not life-threatening, police said.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a 9:43 p.m. report of a semi tractor-trailer that had overturned on along southbound U.S. 131 near Pierson Township.

Police said a 51-year-old Hulbert man was driving a 2018 Kenworth tractor – which was hauling double flatbed trailers loaded with lumber – south on U.S. 131 approaching the overpass on 22 Mile Road.

The man failed to negotiate the curve and ran off the roadway to the right while trying to steer the tractor-trailer back onto the road. The tractor-trailer continued off the road and overturned, spilling its load, before coming to a rest near the overpass embankment.

The man was transported to an area hospital. Police said they believe the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Sheriff's deputies were assisted by Montcalm County Central Dispatch, Rockford Ambulance, Sand Lake Fire Department, Michigan Department of Transportation, and Montcalm County Road Commission.
