The California Highway Patrol says one person is dead after a head-on crash forced a pickup truck to fall into the Salinas River.

The crash was reported around 2:07 p.m. on Monte Road north of Neponset Road, and the CHP says that a red pickup truck and a white international pickup truck crashed.

The red pickup was going north and the white pickup truck was going south, said the CHP. The red pickup truck went into the southbound lane and crashed into the white pickup.

The red pickup continued northwest and crashed with the side of the guardrail, per CHP. The red pickup truck then fell off the bridge into the Salinas River on its roof.

The CHP confirmed that the red pickup driver died as a result of the crash.

He was identified as a 32-year-old man from Lockwood.

The road where the crash occurred is closed in both directions.
